Prof. Takashi Ikeda, Professor, Department of Agriculture, School of Agriculture, Meiji University, Japan was visited the Faculty of Urban and Aquatic Bioresources to establish a collaboration between the two institutes. The link was initiated by Dr. Udari Rathnathunga, Senior Lecturer, Department of Urban Bioresources. Prof. Ikeda is a Professor at the Department of Agriculture, School of Agriculture, Meiji University, Japan and he is the Director of the Advance Plant Factory Production Center of the University. He has worked at the Ministry of Agriculture, Japan for couple of years and has joined as the Associate Professor at the University. He is an expertise in the areas of production systems, horticulture and instrumentation engineering. During his visit to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura from 21st of March to 24th of March 2023, he had some fruitful meetings regarding development of collaboration between the two institutes and meet the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Upul Subasinghe, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Pradeep Jayaweera and The Chairman, University Grants Commission, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge. He has also conducted to guest talks under the course module UBR2216: Farming in Control Environments of 2nd year 1st semester on Protected cultivation and hydroponic culture techniques for urban area and Brief introduction of vertical farm for future agriculture. This captivated opportunity will be a diverse experience for the students and the staff for the future collaborations of the department and the faculty.
